Bought a cheap violin don't know if its right?
I've been wanting to play the violin for a while now and I decided to start taking lessons soon. So first things first I need a violin. Well just browsing around town and checking out different stores and violins we decided to buy one. At a pawn shop we bought a cheap $70 violin. We were thinking, ok its not the greatest but for starting out it has to be fine. So we took it to a professional shop looking for them to just give it a tune and they told us they couldn't do anything because it could possibly break, and it wouldn't be the best to learn on. Now I'm thinking its a little too cheap. The pawn shop told us they'd give us store credit if we took it back and we could get a more expensive better quality violin. But I'm just wondering if I should just keep it for a few months while starting lessons or do I take it back now while I can and start learning on a more appropriate violin. I just don't know what to do and was hoping to get the advice of an expert player before I start taking lessons.

How do I make strong, clear and beautiful high notes on a cheap violin?
I believe I have outgrown my $450 dollar violin my dad bought me from Germany. It is Hoifner and I believe it was made in 1999. I think it is good for an intermediate violinist that only needs 2nd, 3rd position and the occasional 4th, but as I've progressed and learned how to make my violin sing, I could not figure out how to get the high notes to work in 5th and 6th position especially on the E string. They sound very weak, quiet and not clear. I don't even think they could be heard over a piano. The strings I use are very nice, I use Thomastik Vision Titanium Soloist synthetic strings and Pirastro Gold E which I love. The E makes a beautiful sound on my instrument when I am in the lower positions. I have asked my parents for a new violin, but they said no because money is somewhat tight right now. So how do I make my violin work and produce beautiful high notes? Is it because of my technique? If so, how can I improve? Please help me D
