Help with learning violin?!?
I am learning bass not electric bass, the actually big big bass and don't understand how to read the music. What I mean is for example on guitar you have frets which can be thus be indicated what fret to play. So on the bass since theres no frets how do you know where to put your fingers?

Is ti too late to start learning violin at 18?
With a knowledge of music theory, and years listening to classical music. And with short fingers..And I don't want to learn just for fun, I want to become a professional violinist.

When learning violin, is being "double jointed" an advantage?
My niece is seven, and we were thinking of getting her started on the violin. She's ok with that She has amazing flexibility in her joints, what we call being " double jointed" . Does this give a person an advantage? I know Paganini had a condition that gave him great flexibility in his wrists...So, I'm curious What do you guys think? Thanks. Thanks everyone for your answers

Few issues with learning violin (basic)?
Hi there. I've been learning my violin for a week or two.I'm also learning to read music. And I've yet to start lessons but plan to in the near future. I'm currently working on old Lang syne and when going from one string to another and I lift my finger off the first string I keep getting a twang. As if I was plucking the string any ideas What I'm doing wrong? Also I'm sure this is incredibly basic but in more complicated music I look at I see 2 notes say an A and G in line with each other.as if they are to be played at the same time? Could someone explain this type of note. Many thanks steve

Does learning violin is hard?
i have attract to violin when i saw an orchestra...so i have decided to learn playing violin. But does it is difficult to learn? Please answer whose have some experienced about violin.

Do you think I should start learning violin (please read)?
I'm 15 years old right now and I'm wondering if I should learn to play the violin. When I hear the violin, my heart stops and I listen in awe to it. I'm amazed of how it sounds and how graceful people look when they play it.I really want to play but I think I'm a little too old to start learning. A lot of people learn to play the violin when they were around 6 7 years old and now they're amazing I wish I had started earlier but didn't. Do you think I could become good at violin before the end of high school I'm going to be a sophmore this year ?Also, my parents don't think I sholuld take violin lessons because what would I do with it when I grow up? I'm probably going to be busy with college then my career then my family I'll have no time to play the violin... right? I'm not sure. It's not like I could make playing violin into a career... could I? It's too late to think of making it a career. Plus, it's very hard to become a violinist... very competitive too.So... honest opinion. What do you think? I think I would grow a passion for it but then my head keeps telling me no when thinking logically.

Is learning violin at 18 a good idea?
I haven't actually started yet, but I really want to. but I never hear of people starting at 18, usually people start at 5 or something crazy. I'm not aiming to play professionally in an orchestra, just as a hobby. I play piano too.does anyone who play violin have a recommendation whether I should start or not?also I'm left handed, I'd play normally. not sure if this would make it even harder or not..by 'I'd play normally' I mean I wouldn't try to get a left handed violin, just use a regular one

Is it too late to start learning violin or piano?
I'm 18, but I already know how to read music, have a good pitch and I already play classical guitar. Is it too late to start learning violin or piano? And when I say I want to learn, I mean I want to learn professionally and be able to play in orchestras.I don't want a career as a violinist, but I want to be able to play professionally in orchestras.

Can cheap violins affect the progress of someone learning violin?
So I started learning violin 2 years ago, stopped last year, and recently picked it up again but with a new teacher which I'm quite happy with compared to my first. When I had my first lesson with my new teacher, she asked me how much I spent on the violin and I said $500. Then she said I got ripped off from my previous teacher whom I had bought the violin from and said that I could have gotten a much more better violin for that price. Before I started learning, I used to love the sound of the violin, but when I start playing it, it doesn't sound as smooth as I always imagined which then sort of put me off the violin, hence why I quit cause I felt I wasn't improving at all.Has anyone had any similar experience? And should I go out and buy a better one I feel bad for asking my parents though ?I brought it to the music store as well, and they said the same thing and that next time I shoul buy it from a music store rather than the teacher. But I'm not sure if it's just because they want me to buy a new one at their store or because it's not that good.

How hard is it to learn violin?
i am 13 and have already been playing piano since i was 4. so, feeling that i know it well enough to be able to sight read most songs and other music stuff, i was thinking about learning violin next. violin music is so pretty so is it really not that hard or is it on a completely different level than learning piano?

I want to learn violin (please help)?
I have allways loved the sound of the violin, and im a very commited person, i am 14 and would like to start playing the violin, what i want to know is 1 i have NO idea how to read music, when you first looked at it, was you like? WHAT ON EARTH so is it easy to learn to read music? how long does it take to learn to read music for a complete beginner 2 I have never played a violin or any other instrument before, i have played a tiny bit of piano, but never read any music notes, i would love LOVE to start learning violin, so my questions are Is it REALLY hard to learn violin? How long would it take to be atleast partcually good at violin and learn the basics, thanks for all the help, it would be amazing if you can leave some tips as well and as much infomation as possible i am lookin for a trainer but i am just worried it will take me like 6 years just to read the music

I would like to learn violin on my own?
I took violin lessons a few years back and still have my violin which is really nice, but I don't really have the money to pay for lessons which were really expensive.I've played piano for many many years, so my ears are very good, and my fingers on the piano at least are fast.Guitar was fun, but I kept getting a thumb wart when I strummed the strings, and eventually I gave my guitar to my sister. I only played guitar for around 2 years. Is there a good strategy to learning violin on your own? I have the basic posture down and how to hold the bow, and I can produce clear tones that are in key, but I don't really have any music to play or any idea how to practice to the point that I can play smoothly and quickly.

Can you learn violin by ear without knowing how to really play? if that makes sense.. LOL?
So I'm planning on learning violin by myself and I don't really want to learn songs by tabs music sheets and all that stuff and I'm about to get my violin in a week? and I don't feel like going to lessons since I have too much places to goI'm getting a violin because I want to learn it like I learned other instruments I usually take 4 years to learn 1 type of interment before learning another so I'll be spending quite a lot of time since It's almost summer, and I already know how to read music sheet tabs I just don't want to rely on it. but I might go to a couple lessons just to learn the basic stuff.
