Very old violin, Need help!?
I found an old Stradivarius knock off in my grandmothers basement. It was made by Leonardo Genaro, back in the 1910 1920's.It is in great condition and i was wondering if anyone has heard of this particular maker. It also has the case, which is in great condition as well. I did some searching and found that Leonardo and Pete Peate the Willclar worked in Peate's Music House, in Utica, NY. That's pretty much all I know, and it's pretty interesting. But I'm just not sure if it is worth anything. Please reply if you have any answers.

Where can I find information about old violins and where they come from?
My grandfather bought me a violin at an auction. The person who was holding the auction asked for it back because it went for $50. He said that it was an antique violin from the 1880s. I don't know if I can trust this source of information. The case has a GSB Violin Case emblem on the bottom. Where can I find information? I am desperate in finding correct info on this violin.

I know that violins get better sound quality when it is aged, and the older the instrument is, usually the more expensive. Question is, by how much?Say, a violin that was made this year 2010 cost $1000. How much would it cost in one year 2011 ? In 5 years? 10 years?

Old Violin found, tag says "Lorenzo Carcaffi in Borgo...."?
I was given an old violin and was wondering for a little more information about it. The violin has two tags inside, one of the tags is handwritten and so faded that it is unreadable except you can make out that 1887 is written on it. The other tag is not handwritten and says lorenzo carcaffi in Borgo San Fridiano fece l' Anno 1749. The Violin belonged to my grandfather so it is most likely at least 50 years old. The violin also had two bows in its case. One of the bows said Adam Heinrich on it, and the other bow had nothing on it. The violin is a semi red color tone. When the violin was first given to me it had some strings that weren't metal.I am looking to find more information on this violin, what country it was made in, when it was made. I would also like to know about the violin bow.
