Do student violins have a crappy sound?
i want to buy a violin, and im a beginner. I definately know I will play it forever I play other instraments. I don't have a lot of money to spend, but is it even worth it to buy a student violin? Everything I've been reading leads me to believe that if you want a decent violin you have to spend several thousand dollars. Is that true?

What's the difference between a student violin and a regular violin?
I play the violin and I keep reading and hearing about student violins. The picture I see of them looks the same as a standard violin. What's the difference?

Should I get a student violin or a professional violin?
I currently have a student violin which I bought second hand for 50. I've recently had a few problems with it, not through the violin itself but it needing some standard repair. Just recently one of the strings has gone completely out of whack and I cannot seem to get it back into tune no matter what I do, and because of work and the Christmas holiday period I've been unable to get to my local violin shop to get it fixed. It's still unrepaired and I have a lesson on Friday, for which I've not been able to properly practice for.So I was considering buying a second violin to use as a backup for my current one. But I was unsure whether to buy another student violin or to just go ahead and buy a professional one. Logic tells me to go with a student violin, but I plan on buying a professional one when I advance anyway, so I'm unsure whether to just get a professional one and use that as my backup if my student one fails, and to use that during my exams. The guy at my local violin shop said I'd be looking at around 250 if I wanted a decently priced violin that would make a difference to the sound. I don't know how much new student violins go for. But I definitely need a backup violin so I'm not stuck without an instrument to practice on.Which do you think would be best? Play safe and get a student one, and wind up eventually with two student violins and a professional one in the future, or just go ahead and buy a professional one?

Has anyone heard of student violin fine violins?
