Why are second violin parts so boring?
Why are the second violin part so boring? Half of the time the parts are easier than the first violin. Aside from the bass, the second violins seem to be neglected by the conductor more than the cello,violas,and first violins. I know you can't have all the violins playing the protagonist harmony , but I just think that second violins need more excitement. Most kids in the second violin think it's bad to be selected as second over first so are there any good benefits about being a second violin player?Sorry, I meant that the first violin plays the melody.

Is it ok to have 3 violin parts in a piece of classical music?
I'm writing this piece of orchestral music and I have 3 violin parts for it. I could possibly get around it but it would be much easier and i think would sound better with 3 violin parts, but I know that there are typically only 2. I mean, most orchestras split their violins into two sections right? So I'm worried that it might be troublesome to write 3 parts. I'm not sure if I should or not. Any help or enlightenment would help and be greatly appreciated
